Just attended the Singapore Portfolio strategy forum organized by Bloomberg and met some other practitioners in the financial industry.
Do note below sharing is based on my personal opinion and from a practitioner point of view as I handle advisory clients for their stock and mutual funds portfolio, hence not representative of the panelists or speakers' view.
Key take aways: 😉
1. 60/40 portfolio may not perform as expected because of the volatility of the asset class and their returns.
Lesson: Consider Equal risk parity and invest with a long term perspective.
2. Past or historical negative correlations may invert when both stocks and bonds move in the same direction. Does not occur often but when they do, large draw downs occur. Fat tail risk or black swan events do occur.
Lesson: Past performance not indicative of future returns. Last year correction may not indicate this year will repeat.
3. Narratives vs quantitative data. Both matters as overly focused on one aspect may lead to one being caught wrong footed.
Lesson: Adopt multi-strategies and diversify from single strategy.
What I do: I help clients grow their wealth and navigate difficult and challenging market conditions using different strategies according to market conditions and environment.
Hence, a qualified practitioner aided by quantitative and quality research in current times is of paramount importance to helping you grow wealth consistently.
